He studied musicology at the University of Edinburgh, where he received a Bachelor of Music with distinction.

With a scholarship he went to Hamburg, where he studied horn and piano and also completed his solo diploma with distinction.

Member as a trumpeter in the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britan, Scottish Opera, Hamburger Symphoniker, Hebrides Ensemble, Hamburg Brass and others

From 1978 to 2009 he was a solo trumpeter in the Philharmonic Orchestra of the state capital of Schleswig-Holstein - Kiel.
